What's fear's antidote?
by Holly LanesmithSomeone once told me that faith is the opposite of fear. And after that, I never viewed fear the same way…
Let’s be real. We’ve started a new year. We have hopes; we have dreams; we have desires.
But the truth is, some of us have fears.
Perhaps 2021 didn’t end the way you expected it would. Or perhaps the start of 2022 has already felt like a challenge.
Maybe you have big dreams and big goals for 2022, but deep down, you already feel a bit of doubt creeping in, telling you that you aren’t equipped or worthy of that which you desire.
Whatever the case may be, today I want to share with you what I believe are the 3 antidotes to fear.
I have found the antidotes of fear to be faith, trust, and love.
…Faith in yourself and in your potential to bring your dreams forward, and faith in a higher power to help you navigate the journey ahead.
Trust is about trusting yourself, trusting those who are part of bringing your dream forward, and trusting that everything you need will be brought to you.
Let’s talk about trusting those who are part of bringing your dream forward. Sometimes this involves surrendering control.
If you’re a business owner, you can’t take everything upon yourself.
Of course there are certain tasks only you can do, but when it comes to those things that bring you stress, that suck the energy out of you, that hinder you from doing what you need to do - you need to entrust others with those tasks.
If you have employees, you need to trust them to deliver. You can show them what to do, but you can’t do the work for them.
Imagine doing those mundane tasks that suck the energy out of you, and then not having the mental capacity to create or vision-cast.
Do you need to delegate more in 2022? It’s something to consider…
Lastly, let’s talk about how love is a good antidote to fear.
Think about this.
Love brings us a sense of security, and security is the opposite of chaos.
Chaos is composed of fear and uncertainty.
Read that again and really think about it. I’d say it’s pretty safe to say that love is a good antidote to fear.
Think about how you feel when you’re taking part in an act of love; whether you’re the one giving love or receiving love.
Think about what it's like to take part in a volunteer project to help those less fortunate. You’re doing it out of love, and it brings intrinsic fulfillment within you.
Think about the feeling you get when someone brings you flowers during a difficult time.
There’s a type of hopeful energy that is brought out within us. It gives you the energy to keep going, and the security of knowing you are loved and have purpose.
Think about the feeling you get when you give a loved one a gift. Intrinsically, you’re rewarded.
Think about what it feels like to spend time with your partner - or even a close friend. Have you ever felt like your worries melt away?
These feelings are all due to love. Love is another antidote to fear.
Whenever challenges come up this year, think back to faith, trust, and love, and allow them to speak louder than the volume of fear in your mind.
I truly believe they’ll help propel you forward.
